Do you think she’ll be a gardener one day?

I just had to share this picture of the back garde I just had to share this picture of the back garden from this morning. I love the way the sky is lit as the sun came up. The clouds were really beautiful. I didn’t enhance this photo at all, and I took it with my iPhone 11, but I did straighten it. I tend to take crooked photos. 😂

The snow will take a while to melt, but next week we are supposed to have highs in the 50s. I’ll be doing garden coaching next week which I always enjoy. My garden coaching clients always inspire me.

This year I am in need of inspiration.

Because of the ice storm in October, there will be a lot of changes in my garden this spring.

I will be removing four or five Japanese maples that were crushed in the storm. Also, the shady part of the garden which would be off to the left won’t be so shady anymore. We had to remove a lot of limbs from the trees. My southern magnolia lost a lot of limbs in the December snow storm because the snow was heavy and wet. It will all be very interesting.

I’m going to try to use some native shrubs to replace the Japanese maples. These will feed the birds and other pollinators. Before I plant anything though, I’ll be looking at how the sun comes through the trees. It will make all the difference.

Here’s my Valentine. Bill and I have been marrie Here’s my Valentine. Bill and I have been married 32 years. He always works so hard for our family. I did a little video of him clearing the driveway on my story. I also stood outside and watched him because I love how he works a tractor or a motor grader. Back when our neighborhood roads were gravel, he used to grade them, and I loved how he built up the middle of the road so it drained properly. He still impresses me.

Bill is the one who helped me build our gardens.

Remember my bird photos? He makes sure all the birds have food every night. In fact, he waits until dark so that he doesn’t interrupt them. We jokingly refer to the four bird feeders as Bill’s Bird Cafe. He also fills the fountain on the deck each night so they have water to drink.

Bill is the best. I love him so.

When I took this photo this morning, I was actuall When I took this photo this morning, I was actually writing about how gardening will break your heart. The link to the blog post is in my profile.

I saw this tiny Iris reticulata, and I thought sometimes, gardening victories are small, and you have to focus upon the little things in order to remember spring will come again.

Let me explain. Oklahoma is forecast for a monster snowstorm starting tonight and continuing through Monday. According to the meteorologists, this is our sixth major winter storm since October. Remember October’s ice storm? I wish I could forget it.

Anyway, I’ll share more snow pictures on Monday, but for now, I’m just focusing on this tiny iris I forced indoors. It’s the color of the spring sky, and that’s enough for me.

Ice, ice, baby and Cardinals. So cold, 19F, and Ice, ice, baby and Cardinals.

So cold, 19F, and a lot of snow forecast for Monday.

But, I have a fire in the fireplace, a brisket in the instant pot, and books to read.
